Garage floor coatings and car lift anchors: plan the sequence
Before coating a garage that will contain a car lift, coordinate the lift's slab and anchoring requirements with the coating installation. The lift installer must confirm the structure and anchors. A decorative floor system doesn't establish that the concrete is suitable for lifting equipment.

Choose the equipment before finalizing the floor
Provide the exact lift model, installation manual and proposed position. Include vehicle clearances, ceiling height, door movement and access around the posts. A general sketch labeled “future lift” leaves too much unresolved.
BendPak's published concrete requirements illustrate why slab condition, thickness, reinforcement and anchoring details depend on the equipment. Don't transfer one model's requirements to another.
Resolve the sequence with both installers
| Decision | Confirm who owns it |
|---|---|
| Slab verification | Equipment installer or appropriate qualified professional |
| Concealed services | Assessment before drilling or cutting |
| Lift removal or installation | Authorized equipment installer |
| Coating around plates and anchors | Agreed flooring detail |
| Return to use | Both equipment and coating requirements |
Ask whether base plates will be installed before or after the coating and how that affects preparation, appearance and future service. There isn't a universal sequence that replaces the equipment and coating instructions.
Keep drilling and repairs out of the guesswork
Existing cracks, repairs, suspected post-tensioning or concealed services require appropriate assessment. Don't drill exploratory holes to estimate thickness or locate reinforcement yourself.
If concrete work is needed, ask who specifies it and when it will be ready for the lift and coating. Concrete readiness and coating return-to-service are separate decisions; neither should be inferred from the other.
Review the finished boundaries
At handoff, identify any uncoated areas, access needs and maintenance instructions. Keep the lift documents, slab findings and coating product information together. If the lift is moved later, revisit the installation requirements rather than treating the coated floor as a blank layout.
Use the garage-floor estimate checklist and installation preparation guide. To request project planning, say that a lift is installed or planned. Confirm the companies responsible for the equipment and flooring before agreeing to the work.
